How to choose the right security system for you
Wondering how to choose the right security system for you? Let Tips 21 help you with some important information that will make your decision easier and may save you some time and money as well. If you are considering purchasing a security system for your business or home then you have chosen a great time to do so as falling prices and advances in technology are on your side. What do we mean by that? Well it used to be that electronic gadgets such as these were considered luxuries due to the high prices and how expensive it was to install them. That is no longer the case. These days an excellent security system can cost you about 3 times less than it would have three years ago. There is also the ease of installations that now comes with many of the systems involved. This means most people can by-pass the high cost of paying a professional to install it. Of course not all of us can do it ourselves though. But in either case the option is there for us to look at. Here is the list of the different kind of security systems available.
Magnetic Switches: Mostly all of the available security systems today involve magnetic contacts. The contacts are used on places such as doors and windows. Whenever an intruder or anything does something to separate the switches, contact is broken. This causes the alarm to set off.
Tip: To better compliment the magnetic switches and motion detectors, install sirens both inside and outside of your home or business. The sirens located on the outside can be extremely helpful as they will increase the chances of others hearing them go off. It will also help to scare off any intruder.
Motion Detection: There are many different types of motion detectors. They do exactly what their name suggests. They help to detect any motion that comes within their sensors. The motion sensors which are located inside the motion detection device will immediately pick up any and all movement that veers into its path. Some of these motion detectors are wired, some are wireless. The motion detectors help to back up your magnetic switches in case a burglar gets by the ones located on the doors and windows.
Tip: The more motion detectors you place around the confines of your business or home, the easier it will be to detect any movement. This means better protection for you. However, do keep in mind that the motion detectors have limited ranges so you will need to distribute them accordingly in order to maximize their area of coverage.
Glass breaking sensors: Most burglars will try to bypass magnetic switches by simply breaking the glass in the window or door and climbing through it. This will allow the magnetic switches not to go off since contact has not been broken. But if you have glass breaking sensors in place then they will quickly sense and pick up the intrusion.
Panic Buttons: A panic button is usually about the size of a small matchbox to make it easier to carry with you. In the event you become aware of an intruder in your home you can press it and it will cause the alarm to set off. Depending on your system and the coverage you have, it will also alert the monitoring company as well as the police.
Tip: Always keep the Panic button in the same place, close to your bed so you don’t have to fumble looking for it in the event of an emergency.
Security Cameras: There are various kinds of security cameras available today. There are wired and wireless cameras. The wireless cameras, which are easier to install are more expensive. The prices will vary depending on the size or model you choose. They also come in black and white or color. All wireless systems usually cost more than the wired counterparts largely due to their ease of installation and latitude.
Tip: The wireless systems have a base which uses radio frequencies to connect the entire system together. You will need to choose where you place this base carefully as this is the heart and soul of your security system.
Before you decide on what system to purchase you will need to outline a plan. This plan involves the amount of windows and doors you have, your budget and what kind of coverage to choose from. Depending on the system you choose, you can decide whether or not to install the system yourself in order to save some money. However, if the security system is for your business, we highly recommend hiring a professional company to do the job. We hope these tips will help you on how to choose a security system for your home or business.
